joy in the simple things

so all the hype and chaos and build up...the magic, the beauty...gone so quickly...the moments fading with each present that is unwrapped. knowing that as that monumental mountain under the tree gets smaller and smaller, the months of preparation...the hours of standing in line waiting patiently for your turn at the till...the carefully thought out gift lists, dinner preparations, and entertaining guests...the congested streets and insane amounts of people cramming themselves into spaces that were already packed to begin with...all of this coming down to the one moment. the moment your children wake up christmas morning and creep down the stairs and their eyes light up with that magic as they realize that the day they have been waiting for is here...and as you witness this amazing wonder in their eyes, you know that all that was done to make the moment perfect in your house was completely worth it.

and as the day fades away with a family feast and good cheers you start thinking about much more organized you are going to be next year...how you are going to avoid all the chaos that ensues within the 24 days before this...than you smile as you look around at the dirty dishes piled in the sink waiting to be cleaned of their holiday fare...the bits of wrapping paper that have creeped their way out of various hiding spots after you were pretty sure you got it all...the opened gifts strewn about as they are shown off to those who have yet to see what others have received...and you know that next year will be no different than this year. you know that if anything changes the way you feel right now it wouldn't be the same...because you know that your perfect christmas is all because of everything leading up to that one moment.

here are some photo's of how our family celebrates the holiday...
Kids_and_gingerbreadthe kids convinced daddy to help and he decorated a side of the gingerbread house...but darn it!!couldn't get him to co-operate with the photo...he insisted on making goofy faces..this is the lesser of of the evils for he is only crossing his eyes in this one, LOL!!

Taking_a_breakand my little skating queen!! haillee was the last off the ice...she was having a blast and wanted to learn all kinds of things on skates!! i might have a little figure skater on my hands after all!!! so it was fun to use some old coaching skills and show haillee how to stop properly and how to start doing 2 footed turns...as an ex figure skater i was ecstatic to hear her say, mom can i do skating lesson's?? uh...yeah!!!

  10. I am so jealous of the ice skating! That would have been so cool to do. All we have down here in the south is indoor rinks...not too fun...not nearly as much fun as your outing looked! Happy New Year!
